Gardening 101...

we grew this! a few months ago eric and i decided that it would be fun to plant a garden in the back yard. so we bought seeds and soil and eric built raised garden boxes and made a little fenced in area so Violet (the dog) wouldnt eat the fruits of our labor. it was really great at first, watching them sprout and grow...then we used miracle grow and it was fun to watch them grow at lightening speed and take over the whole fenced area. now it is not so much fun because the tomatoes are taller than me and are so heavy and thick that they have fallen over and are laying on top of the peppers-so who even knows what those poor little peppers look like! the cucumbers got ginormous and have sent out all these stringy runners into the tomatoes, jalopenos and peppers and so they have made one big taneled mess! did i mention that we stopped watering the garden because it was so ugly and messy? but amidst the mess of an unwatered garden grew these beautifly large delicious cucumbers! we are so excited but need to find a whooole lot of recipes that include cucumbers. does anyone know why cucumbers are spiny? there are lots of little pokey stickers on them and i know the ones at the grocery store dont have them so i am kind of wondering if we picked them too early or what?

Well, no worries Tara, the little spiny's are normal - the store just rubs them all off and actually waxes the cucs. You just have the God made fresh kind! I still have hope you might throw alittle water your garden's way - poor little thirsty souls. It gave even though thirsty. Beautiful.

Yummy! I love veggies out of the garden. Bri and I grew a garden last summer. I wish were could have grown one this summer too. Too bad our city gets an average of 16 days of sun.

Tara, find a recipe online for a German Tomato and Cucumber Salad. So Yum!

And cucumber sandwiches are SO good if you mix a little bit of mayo or cream cheese and butter and spread it on wheat bread, then put on a layer of peeled, thinly sliced cukes. For a proper presentation, you must cut off the crust and cut the sandwich in forths. You'll feel like a proper English lady while you nibble daintily. Make sure you eat them with your pinky out.

Don't forget a little dill sprinkled on that cream cheese and cucumber sandwich... I'm feeling hungry all of the sudden.
